This apartment is located within a former industrial building that underwent an extensive conversion into residential space. Our approach was to preserve a connection to the building's history and make its industrial past an integral part of the new interior.
This idea shaped the project's design language: exposed ceilings, rough plaster textures, intentionally imperfect surfaces, and furniture with a subtle grunge influence. Rather than concealing the original character of the building beneath new finishes, we chose to emphasize it and complement it with contemporary elements.
The conversion also came with a number of constraints and regulations. One of the requirements was that approximately 70% of the floor area had to be covered with rugs. Instead of treating this purely as a technical limitation, we incorporated it into the overall interior concept.
The rugs became an important part of the apartment's visual language, introducing warmth, softness, and a more residential character into the industrial setting. The contrast between tactile textiles, raw surfaces, and exposed architectural elements ultimately became one of the defining features of the project.
As a result, constraints that could initially have complicated the design became a source of its individuality. The building's industrial history and its new residential function coexist naturally, creating an interior with a distinct and recognizable character.
