The defining image of this house emerged from the intersection of contemporary architecture and the aesthetics of the Streamline Moderne era. The style drew inspiration from aerodynamics, ocean liners, and the streamlined forms of ships, giving architecture its characteristic rounded corners, flowing lines, and sense of movement. We reinterpreted these ideas through a contemporary lens.
The concept was particularly appropriate for this site. Streamline Moderne was historically very popular in Florida, while the property itself has an unusual angular configuration. The house sits at the intersection of two streets, creating a sharp corner that became one of the key architectural challenges of the project.
Rather than emphasizing this geometry, we softened the corner with a translucent breeze-block screen. The structure creates a smoother silhouette while preserving privacy and partially concealing the double-height glazed volume behind it. The screen therefore works both as an architectural gesture and as a practical layer between the house and the street.
At the same time, the entrance retains a strong sense of arrival. Its composition clearly marks the main entrance and gives the house an open, welcoming character.
The project involved the renovation of an existing house, with the architectural transformation focused on creating a new identity rather than simply updating the building. The references to Streamline Moderne are not reproduced literally. Instead, they are translated into a contemporary architectural language shaped by Florida, the history of the style, and the particular geometry of the site.
