Renovation Without Reconstruction

This interior project is located in Pittsburgh, within an older residential property. The main objective was to completely rethink the interior while preserving the existing structural framework and working within a carefully controlled budget.

Rather than undertaking a major reconstruction, we focused on the elements capable of fundamentally changing the perception of the space. This allowed us to achieve an almost complete visual transformation without altering the building’s structural systems.

One of the most significant interventions was the kitchen. The existing kitchen was fully replaced with a new design, creating a cleaner and more contemporary composition that became one of the central elements of the renovated interior.

Particular attention was also given to the staircase. The redesigned stairwell now has a minimalist, contemporary character, transforming what was previously a purely transitional space into an integral part of the overall interior concept.

The palette is built around soft beige tones, creating a warm and calm atmosphere while keeping the interior versatile and comfortable for everyday living.

The limited budget required a particularly thoughtful approach to furnishing and sourcing. Instead of relying heavily on bespoke elements, we deliberately focused on ready-made pieces from established brands. At the same time, the selection was far from generic. We looked for distinctive and less obvious furniture and accessories that could give the interior a strong individual identity.

This approach created a careful balance between cost and visual impact. Without relying on expensive custom fabrication, the interior gains its character through a considered selection of furniture, lighting, materials, and details.

The project demonstrates that a successful renovation does not necessarily require major architectural intervention. By identifying the elements that have the greatest impact on how a space is perceived, it is possible to achieve a substantial transformation with relatively limited means.

The result is an updated interior that gives an older residential property an entirely new visual and emotional character, while demonstrating how budget constraints can become an opportunity for a more precise and efficient design approach.
