TERRACOTTA I

Architectural project

Project Description

This house is part of our settlement project in Mongolia and is the most compact of the three house types, yet it features a unique design. All the rooms are on a single floor, with the entrance and driveway on the back façade. This layout allowed us to create a minimalist front facade that elegantly overhangs the site's natural topography.

Given Mongolia's extreme continental climate, we designed the house to sit on piles to prevent freezing during cold winters. We added small overhangs around the perimeter to protect the home from overheating during the hot summer months.

The floor plan highlights the separation between the kitchen-dining area and the living room while sliding doors allow these spaces to be combined when needed. All primary rooms are oriented toward the most scenic views framed by expansive panoramic windows, maximizing the connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape.
